2022.01.25 13:19 U53R_0 Can I use audio samples from this music track?
Hi everyone, Im interested in creating my own music piece that would contain audio samples from this track: Paula - Mi habitacion (Spanish Bossa Nova) - YouTube And when created, I'd upload my piece onto Spotify. (So that's commercial use. I want to make money off that.) Can I even do that legally? It seems like the artist is still alive Paula Ribas – Wikipédia, a enciclopédia livre (wikipedia.org) , and in the youtube video description, it seems like "adarce records" somehow (own?) the rights to sell music discs containing the track that I want to use. ¡Desafinado! – Adarce Records Can I by any chance use these audio samples? Do I need to contact someone before I do? Can I make money by putting my track onto spotify? Thank you in advance!

It's estimated that since EJS was replaced by the Post, that Post posts have fallen by 90%. Also, notice the awkwardness when I say 'Post posts?' Just doesn't work, does it? So even the name doesn't work.

2022.01.25 13:19 the_iguana_don The Crypto-Gods are telling me to start mining, and now I need your help.
So I recently bought a decent PC (With RTX 3060) mostly for gaming but also to explore crypto mining. I haven't done any mining yet but as luck (or my own stupidity) would have it, I forgot to order propane for our home's furnace. As of yesterday the furnace ran out of propane, and now the air temperature in my house will be 50F or lower for the next week. Seems like the crypto gods are telling me it's time to mine.
My questions are this:
1) I understand that I'll need to uninstall my current gaming drivers and install the dev driver 470.05 to achieve maximum hash rates...
2) My internet speeds are quite slow, often around 1.5 - 2.5 Mbps. Will this restrict my ability to mine?
* Is this any risk to my PC? * Will I be able to game with this dev driver? I game at 1080p and 60FPS cap because of my monitor, so i don't regularly ask this 3060 to work all that hard
2022.01.25 13:19 onceuponanutt Response to a rising NFT/blockchain FUD video from YouTube
| This is a video by a gentleman named Christopher Natsuume. He is a video game developer and is expressing his frustrations with NFTs, play-to-earn gaming, blockchain and more. He posted the video on Jan 23, and at the time of me writing this post on the morning of Jan 25, it has about 225k likes. |
While I disagree with almost all of what he says, and I find a few things about him and his claims odd, I will give him the benefit of the doubt that he is being genuine and try to respond rationally. This is not an attempt to bash or invalidate him, I simply want to address the concerns I have.
I will add hyperlinks with timestamps for anything I want to reference directly, though I strongly suggest you watch the video in its entirety first so nothing I say/he says is taken out of context
Initial impressions Firstly, I skimmed over the whole video to get a feel for it. I want to try to understand his tone and style, to get into his headspace so I might better understand his point of view. In summary, I would say his main argument is that gaming is losing the fun and sense of community as more things become monitized. That is a very reasonable argument, and one with which I actually kind of agree. I'll build on that later.
He speaks with obvious frustrations and heightened emotions. No one should be judged for that. That said, the first red flag for me was that he was speaking passionately about the apparent slippery slope we're on, leading me to believe he would argue from a point of morality, but his first point was regarding the difficulty/stupidity of the logistics of cross-game NFTs. You can only see this disconnect if you're looking for it, and with the help of this community ^(\cue The Architect voice*)* we have become exceedingly efficient at it.
1:42 and what I've seen in the last 2 years is one of the most cynical, painful, destructive attacks on our industry that I have seen in decades of working in video games. And it started with free-to-play, but what is happening now in this crazy NFT, blockchain, play-to-earn bullshit is so destructive that I think it may actually do permanent, irreperable damage to our industry, and it's time for someone to actually say NO.Do you see it?... Here's a summary in one sentence;
NFTs are bad for the gaming industry because they aren't compatible right now.
Sorry dude, that makes no fucking sense. You can't apply logic/purpose of upcoming technologies to existing infrastructure. That would be like someone shitting on Bluetooth in 1998 because "there's no way BT will be able to distinguish between all the different devices!"
Just because you don't understand something or see its potential doesn't mean it's a bad idea.
So, who is this guy?
0:44 I've been making games now since 1992. I have made strategy games....uhh...casual games...I've made...uhh...um..first person shooters...I've made...I don't even know what I've made. I stopped counting around 50 games. And it's very likely you've played games that I've been involved with whether you play casual games like Awakening, whatever, you play FPS like Far Cry, I've been involved in a lot of stuff.Bold strategy cotton, let's do a quick checkypoo.
This is a screenshot of the game Awakening (2013), one of two that he mentioned by name. While I don't want to discredit his work, I find a disconnect between his claim that he has 'built economies and built worlds' and the quality of this game.
To his credit, he was 1 of 3 producers of Far Cry 1). Although that was released in 2008, and from what I can tell he didn't work on the others in the series and hasn't worked on any major projects since. Again, not bashing him or his work, but the gaming industry has sure as shit grown exponentially since 2008. Has he grown with it?..
Awakening released in 2013. "That was so long ago!" You might say. Here is another screenshot of one of his games from 2020 called Faircroft's Antiques. Again, not bashing his work, I certainly couldn't make this. My only point is that IMO I don't know if this guy is qualified to talk on the future of blockchain and NFTs.
Here's my justification;
6:47 [assuming the infrastructure is compatible] I still don't know if everything that you do technically would it matches up do I have a helmet that looks like that in my game cause somebody would have had to make that because the smart contract is not big enough to hold the data files that would have the animations and the art and the whatever. That that can't come with the object, that has to actually exist in the game that I bring the object into. And I don't know if I've built that or if I haven't built that, and I don't know how many bugs are generated when you're trying to bring stuff into my game that I didn't even know existed because it was made in somebody else's game short circuit 🤯. It's unworkable. The whole thing is absolutely unworkable.There are many more examples and rants and analogies and emotions from him. But sorry Christopher, just because you don't understand something or can't do it yourself, doesn't mean it can't be done.
What I believe to be his rational arguments Firstly, he makes a comment that I absolutely love regarding his passion for gaming;
1:11 I've always been in the gaming industry for 1 simple reason - I love games. I think what we do at our highest, brightest moments is to bring a level of interaction and joy and fun and communiy to the world that is difficult to find in any other form of entertainment. At our brightest moments, games can be a wonderful, beautiful force for good.Fuck yeah, Christopher. Fuck yeah.
I also agree with his concern that everything being monetized is probably not great. The world is being turned into a shopping mall, and the interesction of that mentality with gaming has the potential to suck the life out of it all. I disagree that's where we are headed regarding this new tech, but I stand behind him with those concerns. I also agree that building a functioning ecosystem will be challenging.
Chronilogical breakdown of all negative comments
(From his recent LI post) NFTs are a pure scam. Blockchain gaming is a pyramid scheme. Play-to-earn is not only a scam, it's deeply immoral. (claims immorality, explains technically difficulty)I don't think I need to do the rest. You get the idea. Just a hit piece.
My personal favorite
11:00 and what blows my mind, what I cannot understand, is that there are people with MBAs, there are venture capital companies, there are people who understand how economics work, that somehow think that this makes sense and is an investible opportunity.congratulations, Christopher, you played yourself
[continued] it's as though we said to you 'you're gunna go to McDs and every time you go to McDs and eat a burger you're gonna get burger points. And every time you get those burger points from McDs you can add em all up and at some point you can just say 'Im Done! I'm done payin for burgers! I paid for 2 years for my burgers I'm all done payin for burgers now you gotta give me burgers cause I got enough burger points!' Not only that, I can take my burger points because I earned them here, I "built value", even though what I was actually doing was consuming entertainment, I've "built value" though my bullshit burger points, and so now I can take my bullshit burger points over to Wendys or Taco Bell or or or Burger King and I can say to them 'I've already paid! I paid over at McDs. I paid for 2 years for burgers it's not FAIR to ask me to pay for burgers here at Burger King' despite the fact that you've never given Burger King a dimeOk. I'm done trying to defind this clown. Someone explain literally any rewards points system to him.
Here's one - have you ever heard of Air Miles, Christopher? A widely accepted rewards point system you can claim and utilize across different businesses because they've all agreed that Air Miles is a storage of value? You can fly with them. You can buy items online with them. Sometimes you can claim them for credit towards booze or groceries. Did Air Miles shut down the travel industry? No. I don't think so.
No need to watch the second half of this video.
Be critical guys, this is easy to dissect if you take the time to think.
